SAC CITY, IA – Sac City became a temporary home to approximately 45 children from Cleveland, Minnesota, who found themselves stranded after their bus got stuck near Auburn, Iowa, on a trip to Florida. Thanks to the quick actions of local authorities and community members, the group was safely brought to Sac City.
The Sac County Sheriff’s Office, the Sac County Road Department, and an East Sac County School bus and driver all played pivotal roles in getting the children safely to the city. The Sac Community Center graciously opened its doors to provide the kids with a place to stay while local organizations and volunteers rallied to support them.
In addition to providing shelter, the Sac City Street Department worked to clear roads and parking lots around the community center, ensuring that the kids could be safely transported. Sac City Police assisted with communications and logistical support, while Sac County Health ensured the kids had the necessary cots and blankets for comfort.
A special thank you goes out to local businesses for their generous donations: Food Pride provided meals for the group, Cedar Creek (Noble) Popcorn offered snacks, and numerous volunteers ensured the children felt safe and welcome in Sac City.
The collaborative efforts of the community turned a potentially stressful situation into a heartwarming display of hospitality and teamwork. Thank you to all involved for their dedication to making Sac City a safe and welcoming place!
