Church in Vail Removed in Controlled Burn Training Exercise

Vail, IA – A church in Vail was brought down in a controlled burn today, as local fire departments worked together on a training exercise. The Vail Volunteer Fire Department led the effort, with assistance from Denison Fire, Manila Fire, Dow City Fire, Westside Fire, and the City of Vail.
Controlled burns like this provide crucial hands-on training for firefighters, allowing them to practice water deployment, tanker operations, and coordinated response strategies. At the same time, they serve as a safe method for removing old or deteriorating structures.
The burn marked the end of the building’s presence in the community, and residents expressed appreciation for the firefighters’ efforts in carrying out the operation safely.
