(Carroll  Broadcasting) -  Carroll Broadcasting reports  the sentencing hearing for a former Iowa police chief and western Iowa gun retailer has been postponed to July 1. According to court records from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, Adair Police Chief and BW Outfitters owner, Bradley Eugene Wendt of Denison, was found guilty in February of 11 of the 15 charges levied against him, including conspiring to make false statements to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), making false statements to the ATF, and illegal possession of machine guns. Authorities say between July 2018 and August 2022, Wendt used his status as the Adair Police Chief to write around 40 law letters required to purchase or demonstrate nearly 100 machine guns for the Adair Police Department and later resold them for personal profit. Wendt had previously been slated for sentencing on June 14, but that hearing has been rescheduled to July 1. He faces a combined maximum prison sentence of up to 60 years, including up to five years for the conspiracy count, five years for each of the false statement counts, and up to ten years for illegal possession of a machine gun.
