Arion Passes Resolution to Restrict Vehicle Weights on City Streets
Effective Immediately, 5-Ton Per Axle Limit in Place Due to Highway 30 Closure

ARION, IA (April 17, 2025) — The City of Arion has formally adopted Resolution No. 2025-04B, placing weight restrictions on a number of city streets in response to the full closure of Highway 30 between Dow City and Arion for bridge replacement.

City officials cite concerns over increased traffic through residential neighborhoods as drivers seek alternate routes during the Highway 30 project. To protect local infrastructure, the resolution limits the weight of vehicles traveling on certain streets to no more than 5 tons per axle, including both the weight of the vehicle and its load.

The affected streets include:

  • 1st Street

  • 2nd Street

  • 3rd Street

  • 4th Street (Catherine Street)

  • 5th Street

  • 6th Street

  • Western Avenue

  • Milwaukee Avenue

  • Main Street

  • State Street

  • Grace Street

  • Burton Street

  • Fredrick Street

The Arion City Clerk has been directed to post proper signage in accordance with Iowa Code Section 321.472 to notify drivers of the new restrictions. The resolution, passed unanimously by the City Council on April 17, 2025, remains in effect until the Highway 30 bridge is completed or until officially rescinded.

For questions or further details, residents and drivers are encouraged to contact the Arion City Clerk’s Office.
