Sac County Sheriff Releases Statement Regarding Jail Bond Referendum Results On Tuesday’s Election
Sac County Sheriff Ken McClure issued a statement following the results of the recent jail bond referendum, which fell short of the necessary vote count to pass. The referendum, which proposed a $10.9 million bond to build a new jail and upgrade the law enforcement facility, required 60 percent of voters in favor. It ultimately garnered 58.79 percent of the vote, just 1.21 percent shy of the threshold.
Sheriff McClure acknowledged the close result, saying, “While this may seem like a setback, it’s important to note that 58.79 percent of voters did support investing in infrastructure to improve safety for both our law enforcement staff and the community.”
This was the first time a bond referendum for the project was brought to a vote. The measure was estimated to raise taxes by approximately $0.058 per $1,000 of taxable assessed valuation. McClure expressed gratitude to the Board of Supervisors for backing the initiative and facilitating the vote.
He concluded, “We remain committed to finding a responsible solution that addresses the needs of our community while minimizing costs for taxpayers. In the coming weeks, we will reassess our next steps to ensure the continued safety and well-being of Sac County residents.”
