(Radio Iowa) The University of Iowa is moving ahead on a project to expand and renovate the Tippie College of Business after getting approval from the Board of Regents.
UI vice president, Rod Lehnertz, says the budget is projected between 45 and 60 million dollars. “Was opened in 1994, and since that time nearly doubled the number of students and programs within that college and so the growth needs are absolutely there for a very successful college,” he says. Part of the project involves the renovation of Gilmore Hall.
“Was built in 1910 as our first permanent College of Law Building, 43-thousand square feet of space,” Lehnertz says. We’re currently working on making that space available for the Tippie College of Business with the project there are several dominoes that make this work.” The Pappajohn Business Building will also be renovated in this project. Lehnertz says they are seeking private gifts to fund a majority of the project.
Another project would spend 14 to 17 million dollars to renovate the restrooms in Burge Hall. “Built in 1958, this is six story building. All of the residence hall restrooms piping fixtures layouts would all be modernized as a part of this project over from 2026 through 2029,” he says. Lehnertz says it is a major residence hall and dinning facility, so the work will be done during the summer to avoid disruptions.
The Board of Regents also approved renovation of Level 7 of the John Pappajohn Pavilion for expanded labor, delivery and postpartum patient care at the University Hospitals. “In the last five years we’ve grown by 40 percent in the number of deliveries at the University of Iowa. From 24-hundred five years ago to 33-hundred this current year, Lehnertz says. The estimated project cost is $74 million.
