Groundbreaking for Middle School/High School Gymnasium/Addition Project Wednesday, June 12th
Members of the news media and community partners are invited to attend the groundbreaking
ceremony being hosted by the IKM-Manning Community School District Board of Education to
celebrate the start of construction for the gymnasium addition at IKM-Manning Middle
School/High School.The ceremony will take place at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, June 12, at the
construction site. Following remarks from Luke Potthoff, IKM-Manning Board President, and by
representatives of the district’s architectural (10Fold Architecture + Engineering) and
construction management (Carl A. Nelson & Company) firms, members of the School Board,
administration, project team members and others will turn spades full of dirt to ceremonially start
the project. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the IKM-Manning
High School Gym. Please consult district social media and local radio for any weather-related
updates.
Work on the project has begun, and substantial completion is expected in August 2025, right
on-time for the start of the 2025-26 school year.
The completed project will include the gym, two makerspace classrooms, and a
commons/multipurpose area. The gym will feature seating for 251 spectators for middle school
competitions, and will expand the district’s available practice space for secondary sports
programs. The makerspace classrooms, Fire and Spark, are geared toward lessons in
entrepreneurship, manufacturing and sales, with equipment for hands-on experiences for
students. The commons will be set up with cafeteria-style seating, can be used as a
concessions area for events, and is capable of being used to host large student or public events
and activities.
The $8.4 million, 15,805-square-foot project is being funded using sales tax revenue from the
district’s share of Iowa’s SAVE program funds and a share of the district’s Voter-Approved PPEL
funds.
