Crawford County Supporting Suicide Prevention, Opioid Education

Crawford County is supporting local resources meant to help with suicide prevention and education about opioid addiction
Jill Wonder of Plains Area Mental Health says the board of supervisors discussed several programs during last week’s meeting.
“They’re compassionate about serving our community and so that was really exciting for me to see and be a part of. I’ve been with Plains Area for over two years and I still have people walking in the door that didn’t realize who we were or what we did,” said Wonder.
She says the supervisors approved funding for items like the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) program along with individual and family training to help reach out to students, parents, and others about mental health.
“I do think that there is more that’s being talked about whether that’s because of social media and some of the trends we see on there and just people wanting to gain more knowledge because really so many people in our area are affected by mental health and substance use disorders or addiction,” said Wonder.
Wonder says their programs try to focus on treating and teaching the entire person.
