Shelby Man Pleads Not Guilty To Three Counts Of Child Endangerment

21 year old Lane Joseph Bregar of Shelby has been released from jail. He pleaded not guilty to three felony counts of child endangerment causing injury.
According to Carroll Broadcasting and the Audubon County District Court, Bregar was taken into custody following a report from the Audubon County Memorial Hospital on September 5. The report stated three children with significant injuries had been brought to the hospital. An Audubon Police Officer observed bruising on the ears and scalp of the two year old twins and a fractured tibia and humerous with bruising all over an 8-month old infant. The mother of the children informed law enforcement that she had left her children in Bregar’s care while she went to the store.
Bregar says one of the twins got his head stuck between a couch and while trying to assist the child, one of the other children frustrated Bregar and caused him to hit the child harder that he should have. The officer also observed that Bregar’s knuckles were irritated, bruised and red.
Bregar is currently being charged with two counts of child endangerment causing bodily – a class D felony and one count of child endangerment causing serious injury – a Class C felony. The maximum sentence if up to twenty years in prison and $34,150 in fines.
