On Saturday, May 24 th of Memorial Day Weekend the Manning Hausbarn Heritage Park hosted
its 1 st of 3 events in the Heritage Horses Event Series for 2024. The weather was perfect for the
first of its kind Heritage Farm Team Show with over 300 attending including over 200 adults and
children to enjoy the draft horse competition.

The first “Iowa Farm Team Challenge” competition is in the books, and it was a great show
with 12 teams reporting. Jim Stuart of New Virgina – a competitor and President of the Iowa
Draft Horses and Mule Association shared with the committee, “ I want to give a big thank you
to the Manning Hausbarn-Heritage park committee for welcoming the draft teams to this event.
It was a beautiful day, we had many spectators, and the show ran well. And it is exciting to hear
they are making plans to do it again next year.

The well-organized event also featured Dan Schroeder of Ida Grove offering horse-drawn
wagon rides and an authentic Chuck Wagon to serve food from provided by Fred Coaltrain of
Kiron, IA. Manilla Rough Riders Saddle Club were on-hand to help with parking. IKM-Manning
FFA provided kids with a hands-on experience with the petting zoo. Attendees also enjoyed
fresh burgers and brats grilled onsite and learned more about the park with guided tours
The competition included four class event, the cultivator class, log pull, feed team race, and
obstacle course. Jason and Chris Mason of Odebolt, IA and Nate Brandt of Manilla, IA
announced the events through-out the afternoon.

“This event first and foremost is an opportunity to give back to our growing community, but also teaching the next generation the ways our ancestors lived and worked everyday. It’s something I’ve always appreciated quite a bit and look up to the people who lived in these times. The first show was a great success and I only believe the events this fall and years to come will be just as great!” says Nate.
T

eams traveled here from around the state as far as Mt. Pleasant, IA and as close as our own
