TAP Helps 37 Families During Monthly Food Distribution Despite Challenges

Denison, IA — The Denison TAP held its monthly meeting this past Wednesday, providing vital food assistance to local families in need. Despite the challenge of being closed for one day due to a snowstorm, TAP was able to serve 37 families, which included 88 adults and 28 children, thanks to generous support from the community.
A total of 17 families came in to receive fresh fruits and vegetables and past-dated but still fresh items. In addition to the 37 full food assistance packages provided, families from six towns in Crawford County were able to access the resources they needed.
While individual donations were down this month, several local businesses stepped up to help, with the Farm Bureau Grocery Grap providing significant support. However, TAP’s organizers are anticipating that the need for food assistance will continue to rise, particularly with the possibility of higher prices affecting families in the future.
The organization is calling on the public to remember TAP when shopping. "Just a few extra things donated on your part helps out more than you know," the post read. "When purchasing items, smaller sizes are especially helpful to distribute to more families. Larger size items are appreciated, but they often don’t help as many families."
TAP also noted that, due to limited storage capacity, they are unable to break down larger packaged goods unless they are items like toilet paper, paper towels, or diapers. However, their mission remains clear: providing as much food assistance to as many families as possible. After Thursday, TAP reported being very low on fresh fruits and vegetables and some past-dated items, but families are still encouraged to stop by and see what’s available.
As the gardening season approaches, TAP also encouraged the community to consider planting extra crops for donation. "Fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables are always welcome and our families truly appreciate them," the post added.
The organization extended its thanks to everyone who continues to support the mission.
