whiffed on the punt and Bernal finished a shot from 20 yards out into the vacated net with 11:34
remaining in the match.

Riverside scored on a counter with 6:44 remaining in the match against a backup Lady Monarch
defense. Riverside’s leading scorer had a 1 on 1 with a Lady Monarch defender and had a shot
on goal that Sam Chandler saved, but their striker finished the deflection into the goal.

Comments by Coach Eller: “We played very well for the most part, but we struggle to develop
depth. Our passing and use of the entire field created a lot of shots. In the 2nd half, they tried
to keep their defense up and do offsides traps, which worked a few times drawing us offsides.
Once we were patient and stayed onsides, we created several breakaway chances that we
converted. The girls did a great job on the breakaways, for the most part, of passing the ball
into the net and away from their keeper. We did a great job of passing the ball wide to create
some scoring chances as well. Our starting defense did a great job of shutting them out while
they were in the game. The goal we gave up was with a lot of subs on the field and most of our
starting defense getting a break. We need to get the younger girls to be able to come into the
game and give our starters a break, without having a huge drop off in our level of play. A plus
about that is we did get a lot of girls into the game and got them some varsity experience. Our
younger girls need to be able to play at a faster pace, moving the ball with fewer touches and
they need to have more force behind their passes and when they try to clear the ball. Our
communication with each other on the field continues to be a strength”.
