Gruver, Kolar, and more lead charge for IPSWA All-State Basketball Team
The basketball season came to an official close with the finish of the boy's state basketball tournament last Friday in Des Moines. And amid those games, the IPSWA met with coaches & ADs to discuss their all-state teams for the year. And after careful consideration, the IPSWA has announced their 2024-2025 All-State team for the season.
And on this year's team, plenty of local representation from our KDSN listening area. Starting in Class 1A, Carter Gruver of Woodbine was selected to the Class 1A First team after another trip to the state tournament and averaging 17 PPG. Another RVC player made his name on the list as Cal Haydon of Coon Rapids-Bayard making 1A second team after leading the Crusaders to a split of the Rolling Valley Conference title, making the substate final, all while averaging 22 PPG and 8 RPG. After a season that saw him average 22.4 PPG and finish 11th in Class 1A in PPG, Ben Ramsey of IKM-Manning would make the 1A third team.
In Class 2A, OABCIG star Brysen Kolar would be selected in the 2A third team after the Falcons would fly to a substate final and an 18-win season. Kolar averaged 18 PPG, 3 RPG, and 3 SPG. Ryan Clair would make first-team all-state in 2A after a successful first year with Kuemper Catholic which saw him lead the team averaging 15 PPG, 7 RPG, and 2 APG on a consistently ranked top 3 team throughout the year. Kuemper would make a run to the substate final but fell to Union Community.
Other notable names include Jaidyn Coon of Strom Lake making the 3A first team, while his teammate Cam Boyd made the third team. Ayden Gibson of Glenwood with a breakout year averaging 18 a game would be selected third team. Trevin Jirak of West Des Moines Valley was selected as Mr. Iowa Basketball.
