Local Denison Volunteer Fire Department Discusses Fire Prevention Week
Local Denison volunteer firefighters Cory Snowgren, Tyler Weller and Chad Stephens stopped into the KDSN studios to discuss fire prevention methods as well as fire safety for Fire Prevention Week now taking place through this Saturday. This year’s theme is “Cooking Safety Starts with You”. Stephens said “The leading cause of fires in the kitchen is unattended cooking, so that’s one thing you need to be careful (of). Most of them involve the kitchen stove. So be alert and pay attention to everything around you when you’re cooking”. Weller went on to stress the importance of regular testing of smoke detectors. “You want to make sure you test your alarm for light. Your smoke detector has the power to save your life. If you haven't tested your alarm lately it might not be working. Working smoke alarms give us early warning of a fire providing extra time to escape safely.
