Gross & Co Prepares for a Walk-A-Thon September 27th in Dunlap to Support Local Causes
Gross & Co. in Dunlap, Iowa is currently planning for a Walk-A-Thon to help support local causes in the surrounding communities. Ben Hanson with Gross & Co. said why they do these projects every September. “Iowa Society of CPAs has a month of service; that’s their initiative for CPA’s in the state of Iowa to give back to the communities that they're in and so they really like to volunteer. A lot of CPA’s volunteer throughout the year as well but this month alone they track all the hours that CPAs give back across the state so our firm has participated in this month of service for probably the last 6 or 7 years.” Hanson said the event is coming up soon and explained the Walk-A-Thon. “September 27th we’re going to have all our staff present and we're going to go up to the city dam in Dunlap so it’s just on the East side of town and there’s a path that goes around our pond. It’s about a 3 quarter mile pass- we’ll walk that, we'll all participate together. We're contacting sponsors ; each of us individually, we have a fun little competition among all our colleagues to see whoever can raise the most money.” Hanson said the money from sponsors is raised based on distance walked. “ For every quarter mile walked I’m trying to raise a dollar from my sponsors so it’s from 8: 30 in the morning to about 11:30 and so 4 bucks a mile is what my sponsors are giving me.” Hanson said the money raised can go to several different local causes. “The money goes back to local charities, local non-profit groups so we have people from Woodbine, Earling, Dunlap; so they can choose if they want the money to go to the food pantry, development committee, the fire department, so wherever the individual wants the money to go.” If interested in pledging money to individual walkers, one can contact Gross & Co. at 712-643-5158.
