Tri City BBQ Fest to Take Place in Uptown Denison Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16th
Tri City BBQ Fest comes back to Denison on Friday, September 15th and Saturday, September 16th. Paul Plumb, Executive Director for Chamber and Development of Crawford County, explained the set up this year. “We have the stage set up for the bands right on Broadway and Main. All down Main St. there we have set up for food vendors and some of the off streets there in front of Hy-Vee we have some of the competitors lined up.” Mariah Nutt with the Chamber said the event will run on a BBQ Buck system. “We run on a BBQ buck money system so you have to buy your BBQ bucks at one of our stands in order to buy beer or get food from the food vendors. One BBQ Buck is one dollar; they are an even exchange.” There will be several options in regards to food vendors that weekend Nutt said. “There’s a food vendor area and we have BBQ in our food vendors area. All of our well known BBQ vendors will be back. They’ve been back many years, I think most of them dating back to the start of the festival. This year we’re going to have a Philly truck, we’re going to have a local family farm doing pork burgers and brats and pork products”. In conjunction with the rest of the events that weekend there will be a BBQ competition Nutt said. “ We have a KCBS BBQ Competition happening at the same time, so that's pretty cool. It’s all ran through KCBS, the Kansas City Barbecue Association so they help us, they get the judges, they do the judging. You have to be a certified judge to judge so it can’t just be anyone off the street.” Chamber Director Plumb also said there will be plenty for the kids that weekend as well. “We have inflatables coming in for the kids; a lot of great items there. There’s going to be so many things for them to do. We just got the list semi-finalized just this week, so looking at some great fun: climbing rock walls, some obstacle courses, some great things like that in the inflatable area.” Volunteers are still being sought after to help that weekend and one can go to www.tricitybbq.com/volunteer-signup.
