Dunlap StoryWalk in Pleasant View Park Makes Significant Progress
In exciting news for the City of Dunlap, Iowa, the Dunlap StoryWalk in Pleasant View Park has made significant progress. Jill Schaben with the City described what the Dunlap StoryWalk is. “The StoryWalk is essentially an activity for families where a children’s book is disassembled and then individual pages are placed in angles in display cases along the path. What it does is it allows visitors to walk along the path and to read the story as they are physically active. So it encourages literacy and physical activity.” Shaben said the StoryWalk idea came from a specific member of the community. “Ashley Schaben is a community member in Dunlap and she’s also a speech therapist so it’s a passion project that she had seen in other places. She approached our community development group about the project. They helped her take the steps to share the idea with the Dunlap Library Board and the City Council.” Schaben said the next step will be getting the first book ready to go. “Ashley has a book that's being installed. She picked a camping theme book to try and be seasonal.
