Denison FFA Chapter to Host Annual FFA Kick Off BBQ, Wednesday, August 30th.
The Denison FFA Chapter will kick off the school year this week by hosting their annual FFA Kick Off Barbeque on the patio in the back of Denison High School this Wednesday evening starting at 5:00 p.m. Rebecca Dresen is an FFA Advisor and AG teacher for Denison Schools and discussed why they hold this event every year. “ A lot of times there are kids in AG classes, especially the Freshman, where sometimes they're not sure if they want to join FFA or not. So we do this to kick off the school year as our first meeting to give kids a fun event to see what interests they might have in FFA, talk to other members and see how our first meeting will go while getting food and playing games. “ Dresen went on to detail the activities as well as discussed who's all welcome Wednesday evening. “We’ll have hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, chips, different pops. There’ll be corn hold boards, there’s spike ball so that’s something kids really like where all the grades will get together and play together. We even open it up to parents of these kids that are interested in joining, past members and to our FFA sister club to join.” Dresen detailed the goals of FFA and AG education at Denison Schools. “We do animal science, intro to AG, plant science, agronomy, veterinary science so the kids get an in-depth view at a lot of industries within AG which is really good for them because they can see if they have a future career. We do a lot of career exploration. With FFA they get a lot of communication / leadership skills and how to be a good member of society once they're out of high school.” Dresen explained how to contact herself or the school for those interested in Wednesday night’s event or FFA in general. “They can email me at rdresen@densioncsd.org if they're interested, they can call the school or if they’re a kid they can just come down to my classroom and talk to me.” To register, participants are asked to fill out a form that can be found on the Denison FFA Chapter Facebook page.
