Manning Is Gearing Up For Kinderfest
Manning is holding their 140th annual Kinderfest on Saturday, June 17th. There will be a 5k road race or walk starting at 8 am at the City Park. The parade begins at 11 am. Kids may line up at 10:45 am on Main and Second Street. All kids are welcome to walk in the parade. Jean Voege, Executive Director with Main Street Manning, said German immigrants in Manning wanted an event to honor their kids, and that’s how Kinderfest came to be. “It’s just fun to see the kids and the families. The multigenerational part of it, it’s just interesting.” Voege said she knows some of her classmates have had their children participate in Kinderfest. Those children grew up and had children of their own, and then they get to join in on the tradition. There is a question Voege gets asked every year. “Can we throw candy if we’re in the parade? And you can.” Kids may stay after the parade to enjoy the different games and activities in the park. It is recommended that children wear clothes that can get wet or a swimsuit, as there will be games that can get them wet. Some activities will include an inflatable putt putt golf course, face painting, pie stands, food trucks, rides for kids, and much more. Voege added there will be raffle tickets that have fun prizes. “And the kids do need a wristband to partake in the activities. Wristbands are on sale at various locations in Manning right now and will be on sale at the park on the day of the event. They’re $15, that allows the kids to do a lot of different activities.” After the festivities of the day, the public is invited to enjoy fireworks at the ballpark, starting around 9 pm. All the proceeds will go to funding next year's Kinderfest.
