Called Iowa History 101: People and Places, this museum focalizes on the people of Iowa and places within the state. It shares stories of Iowa’s past and houses at least 56 artifacts. Iowa History 101: People and Places cover approximately 13,000 years of Iowa history, from the earliest people to call Iowa home to today. It spotlights the people and places that make Iowa unique. Some artifacts featured will be a Meskwaki cradleboard, portraying the past and current presence of Native nations in Iowa. Along with women’s suffrage materials from the early 1900s and the pen used by Iowa Governor William Harding to sign Iowa’s resolution in support of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Another artifact would be the flight suit that Iowa native astronaut Peggy Whitson wore during one of her multiple expeditions aboard the International Space Station. Whitson has spent nearly 665 days in space, a U.S. record for cumulative time in space. Those looking to visit outside designated hours please contact Manning City Hall at 712-655-2176.
